Lake Mac businesses: Managing people during a shutdown

We’re working with our Lake Mac businesses to support the greater community. Niccoli from Audir understands the pressures facing businesses across our city and would like to help with managing your people…

In these tough times that just don’t feel real, I wanted to reach out and let you know that, amidst the constantly shifting messages we’re receiving, the one thing that is CERTAIN is that We are all in this together (thanks Ben Lee). Yes, we all have our individual challenges and circumstances but, wherever we can, we’ll be there to support each other. Until we all get to the other side, we may find ourselves a little battle-weary, but we’ll be ready to rebuild in ways we might not yet imagine.

Help with managing your people

A crisis can bring strength, innovation, beautiful new (physically distanced) connections, new ways of being and doing. So, while I desperately wish I could house all the homeless and pay the salaries of those who have lost their jobs, I’m not yet able to do that. What I CAN do, is this:

  1. Provide a complimentary 30-minute zoom check-in to our local businesses who have employees and need a sanity check plus some guidance on your next steps.
  2. I’m just a Facebook or LinkedIn message away if you are feeling isolated and need someone to look out for you.
  3. Further down the track, I’ll happily hold some complementary group zoom workshops for individuals who need to rediscover their strengths, skills and abilities to face the world of work again.

Facing a business shutdown

Finally, for those employers who are planning for a business shutdown and have the ability for your staff to work from home, here are some things to consider in your planning:

  1. Have clear policies and supporting documents in place, these include:
    • COVID-19 Policy (Employment Hero online have a free policy to download)
    • Working from Home Policy; Working from Home Agreement, and Working From Home WHS Checklist
  2. Plan and communicate how you’ll stay in touch with the team: What’s your communication strategy (remembering wellbeing checks)?
  3. Remember to stay in touch with any employees on Long Service Leave or Parental Leave
  4. If you expect your business income to be impacted and you’re a small business owner, you do have an option to consult with your employees about reducing their hours. If you go ahead with this, please make sure you receive advice before progressing.

Sending best wishes to all that we get through this quickly, with kindness, compassion and good health intact.
