Take the kids for a ride & read this weekend! (finished)

This weekend take the kids for a ride and stop for a story along the way. To celebrate Children’s Week, Lake Mac Council has a range of things to do as a family outdoors. We absolutely love their idea of story walks. Your family can read the book Dugong Magic written by our very own Lake Mac children’s author, Deborah Kelly at Toronto Foreshore. Follow along to the story of Ollie’s Treasure written by Lynn Jenkins at Speers Point Park promenade. What a great idea to get them outside and do something a little different.

Local Lake Mac author Deborah Kelly released her latest book Dugong Magic back in April as COVID-19 took hold of our lives. Brightening the lives of children all around the country, Dugong Magic is a gorgeous story about a dugong calf who was separated from his mum. Children can follow along and become empowered by conservation and what needs to change to protect our endangered dugong. Ollie’s Treasure by Lynn Jenkins

Ollie’s Treasure was written by Lynn Jenkins, a local clinical psychologist, author and mother of three. From Lynn’s passion for early intervention with social and emotional development, Ollie’s Treasure is a story about mindfulness. Ollie discovers that the key to happiness comes from within and not from material possessions.

Both stories carry heartfelt messages and help children question and revisit their thinking on important topics. Head out to either Toronto Foreshore or Speers Point Park this weekend to celebrate the end of children’s week in Lake Mac.
