An exciting new family-friendly festival is coming to the shores of Lake Macquarie. At the Up in the Air festival, visitors can enjoy spectacular aerobatic displays and dazzling flyovers. Watch the elite display pilots wow the crowd in their historic aircraft.
As well as aerial acrobatics, attendees of all ages can enjoy entertainment at ground level. Live music, classic car displays, food trucks, market stalls, fun for the kids, and much more.
Aerial displays
Home to a heritage-listed historic World War II RAAF base, Rathmines Park is the perfect location for breathtaking aerial antics. Witness daring displays from rare and historical aircraft including Australia’s only Grumman TBF Avenger. It’s the heaviest single-engine aircraft of the Second World War. Learn how this aeroplane is famously responsible for sinking the Japanese super-battleships Yamato and Musashi. There’ll also be aerial displays by a T-28 Trojan, a Rebel 300 aerobatic plane, and a Pitts Special biplane. Total excitement for the kids!

Kids entertainment
The ‘Up in the Air’ festival has plenty of activities for the whole family. The jam-packed program includes magic shows performed by JD’s World of Magic, SMART interactive science shows, dance, and kite-making workshops. Plus, roving stilt walkers, hoopla hooping, fun with Bubbleology, and an art and craft zone.

“This is a fantastic opportunity not only to see these spectacular aircraft soar over Lake Mac, but to enjoy a host of land-based entertainment in a beautiful part of our City,” Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said.
