What you’ll find at the Sugar Valley Library Museum

Located in one of our newer suburbs of Lake Macquarie, the Sugar Valley Library Museum (kirantakamyari) offers a mix of both a modern library experience and museum programing. Borrow a book, wander through the exhibition, enjoy virtual reality, or head straight to the dedicated kids zone. With a range of free services also available within the facility, we highly recommend stopping by for a visit.

Getting to the Sugar Valley Library Museum

Located at the edge of the shopping centre at Cameron Park, it’s not hard to find. Whether you’re coming from Main Road Cardiff, or George Booth Drive, you’ll turn into Cameron Park via Portland Drive. You’ll find parking within the shopping centre, and toilets within the facility, plus the building is accessible.

Library

Over the years, libraries have evolved into a positive and engaging place for kids of all ages. This new facility has taken this to the next level with a multimedia tech space, a workshop area and a dedicated kids zone. You can join the library for free and I can assure you borrowing a book is effortless.

This family friendly environment frequently holds special events for all ages. You’ll enjoy author talks and history sessions too.

Museum

The museum is a real treat. There’s interactive VR, and a ‘Play Museum’ where you can experience historic objects. Discover what it’s like to be in an underground coal mine. Stroll down the exhibition, reading and learning as you go, immersing yourself in our rich history. We loved the current exhibition – Westy: we built this history.

If you’ve got little ones, the library is going to be a big hit with them, as the kids zone is really cool. Older kids will love the VR, PS5, borrowing books and they’ll enjoy the museum.

Marks Oval Playground gets an upgrade and the kids love it!

This playground looks and feels different from a standard playground in Lake Macquarie. Built from a wood ‘look-a-like’ structure, it blends into the surroundings and natural landscape. It was interesting to hear the kids comment on its unique character as well, that’s why Marks Oval Playground is worth the visit.
