Look out Warners Bay, there’s a new shop in town

It’s always exciting when a new business comes to Lake Macquarie, and Warners Bay shops are very lucky. Especially when that business is unique. As a child, I can remember my Mum giving my brother and me, pocket money every Saturday morning. We would run out of the front door, yelling back our thank you’s as we headed to the newsagent for the latest copy of our favourite comics and a few sweets. We would have read half the comic before we even made it home. My brother didn’t have a great love of reading, much to the concern of our parents and his teacher. My Mum discovered comics were something that encouraged him to read. He forgot he was reading as he followed the stories of his favourite characters. As I entered Shop Number Four on Lake Street, Warners Bay, all those memories came flooding back.

Comic books for everyone

Shop Number Four is a collaboration between two very different businesses. Comic Book Central has a massive collection of comics for the young and the young at heart. With comics for collectors priced in the hundreds of dollars, to comics to encourage kids to read, priced from a couple of dollars. You’ll find an abundance of choice. Comic Book Central stocks all your favourites including Marvel, DC, Image, and Dark Horse. You’ll find Star Wars comics, superheroes including Spiderman, Superman, and Harley Quinn, and all of the Avengers. The list is endless. For collectors, it’s a candy store of excitement. You can pick up graded CGC comic books, first printings, variant editions, and even back issues. If it’s been a while since you’ve read a comic, do yourself a favour and head over to reignite those memories.

Lake Mac artists hub

Local Lake Macquarie artists fill Shop Number Four with a selection of wares. This is a hub where they can showcase their products and where you can be tempted by a variety of beautiful items. From wall hanging macrame to hand-turned wooden bowls. Scented soaps to beautiful framed illustrations. Earrings and jewellery to local Tingira Heights Regal Honey. Local framed photography prints to upcycled oven mitts. Even tooth fairy pillows for those lost teeth. They stock dried flower arrangements and fresh flowers on a Friday. If you’re looking for a gift for a special someone you’ll be sure to find something perfect here.

Which local artists will you find?

As I browsed through the store so many beautiful pieces caught my attention. The hand-poured scented candles in their beautiful glass jars, just another temptation on my way. Zoe from Hook Line & Stitcher took the time to tell me about the many artists of this hub. These include Clay & String, Franki, Wanderlust Fragrances, Amaythee, White Space Crafts and Decor, Regal Wraps, Steve James Timberware, Wix Hunter, The Flower Alley, Cian O’Hagan Photography, Kokedama by Krystalis, TLC Origami Gifts, and Cherry on Top Designs. With many of these artists appearing at our local markets, they wanted a space where people could purchase their pieces at any time.

Workshop classes

At the rear of the shop is a great workshop space for art-making classes. Adults and children alike can book in to learn how to make macrame plant pot hangers, macrame wall hangings, Christmas decorations, the list goes on. All COVID safe procedures will be in place to ensure your safety while you enjoy learning a new skill.

Are you looking for a place to pick up a gift, some comics to encourage your child to read, or an activity to do with your friends or family? Head on down to Warners Bay shops and check out Shop Number Four. They have something for everyone and I guarantee you’ll find something you love.
