Step back in time at Peek into the Past, where Tocal Homestead comes alive with the sights, sounds and smells of yesteryear. It’s the perfect old-world day out for the whole family, offering a chance to slow down, explore and immerse yourself in nostalgia.

As you wander through the grounds, music drifts across the site alongside the sounds of vintage machinery and the ringing of the blacksmith’s hammer. Warm up with freshly baked scones from the 200-year-old wood-fired oven and a cup of tea, or enjoy traditional damper from the campfire topped with “cocky’s joy”.

Children and adults alike can try traditional bush games, colonial family games and meet farm animals. Keep an eye out for the redcoats of the 73rd Regiment of Foot as they march through the site, fire muskets and maintain the King’s peace. Visitors are welcome to wander through the encampment and chat with the soldiers about life in the colonial era.

Throughout the day, enjoy history talks sharing the stories behind the Homestead and the people who shaped it. There will also be heritage clothing parades, machinery demonstrations, working tractors, sheep shearing, calf feeding and vintage farm equipment in action. Don’t miss the original Rolls Royce of the Homestead on display.

With plenty of delicious homemade refreshments available — or space to spread out a picnic rug on the lawn — Peek into the Past is a memorable winter day out for all ages.
