Newcastle boasts a spectacular walk along Bather’s Way from Newcastle Ocean Baths to the Bogey Hole. How to get here
You can catch the bus or train into Newcastle and use the tram to travel down Hunter Street to Newcastle Beach. If you choose to drive, parking is available but can be busy. Newcastle Beach is a central location. Easily walk between all the swimming spots.
Newcastle Ocean Baths
With views across to Nobby’s Beach and Lighthouse, the ocean baths are a safe and fun place to swim. A lifeguard is on duty during peak season and the change rooms are open from 5:30 am. Note: The baths need to be cleaned weekly, so check before you plan your trip so you know the times to avoid.
Canoe Pool Newcastle
Just a two-minute walk from the baths is the Canoe Pool. With its sandy bottom, and shallow water, this is the perfect spot for young children to play while you watch. Kids can build sand castles and play for hours. This natural, round pool is dependent on the tide, however, there is plenty of room for a sun shelter most of the time.
Newcastle Beach
The walk along Bather’s Way takes you past Newcastle Beach, the newly built skate park and an excellent undercover area filled with tables and chairs perfect for a beachside picnic. From beach volleyball, to a kiosk, Newcastle beach is a great place to explore
Bather’s Way & Bogey Hole
Bather’s Way continues past the skate park up the hill to the Bogey Hole. Located close to King Edward Park, this is the oldest ocean pool in Australia carved by convicts in 1819. You can still see the original steps that were carved out of the rock. The Bogey Hole is not patrolled.
