Costco at Boolaroo Lake Macquarie: Here’s a quick guide

Costco was a novelty when it first arrived in Lake Macquarie, with queues stretching for hundreds as locals got their first taste of the warehouse shopping experience. Years later, trolleys are still piled high with bulk buys and household essentials. Brave shoppers dodge magpies eager to snatch a chip, or even a pack of mince, while enjoying the one-stop warehouse shop they’ve come to love. So, how does shopping at Costco Boolaroo actually work?

Shopping at Costco

To shop at Costco, you need to be a member. There are two options: a personal membership or a business membership. A personal Gold Star membership currently costs $65 a year. Each store has a membership counter where staff will help you sign up. Once you’re a member, you can shop at any Costco anywhere in the world.

Gold Star membership

Signing up for a Gold Star membership is simple; you just need to be over 18. Each member is allowed one transaction per visit. Once you’ve joined, you can also request a free household card, so your spouse, partner, or immediate family living at the same address can shop using your membership.

So, what’s the advantage? Costco focuses on giving customers top-quality products at great prices. Beyond groceries and household items, they also offer a wide range of services, including hearing aids, eye exams, and even car tyres. Costco truly positions itself as a one-stop shop.

Products & brands

Costco stocks big-name brands like Prada, Bose, Apple, Sony, and Superdry, no knock-offs here. You’ll also find a wide range of items, from furniture and appliances to clothing, boats and kayaks, gardening tools, food and drinks, and even alcohol.

Costco Hot Buys

Keep an eye on Costco’s ‘Hot Buys’ for some real bargains. I checked a set of Beat headphones and saved over $100! If you know what you want and don’t mind waiting for it to pop up on their discounted list, you can snag some amazing deals.
