Growing up today isn’t always easy. Young girls are navigating school pressures, family life, a constantly connected digital world, and changing expectations. It’s a bigger, more complex world all around them. Some kids need a place they can call their own. A place where they feel accepted for exactly who they are, can build confidence and try new things. Somewhere they can learn new skills, and form friendships that can last a lifetime. A place to be adventurous and creative, discover new talents, develop a positive sense of self, and, most importantly, have fun. For generations of girls in our area, that place in Lake Macquarie has been Girl Guides.
Girl Guides is all about the girls
Girl Guides is a welcoming, inclusive and supportive place where girls and young women can be themselves. This includes making great friends and discovering what they’re capable of. Through a flexible program filled with fun activities, Guides are encouraged to find their voice, try something different, learn new skills and step outside their comfort zone. These experiences are all in a safe and nurturing environment. Membership fees help cover essentials such as insurance, while local Guide Units may charge a small additional fee for activities and experiences throughout the year.
Find her place in a Guide Unit
Girls join a small Patrol within their local Guide Unit, usually made up of four to six girls. With the support of a trained adult volunteer Leader, each Patrol works together to discover, decide, plan and take part in activities based on their interests. Girl Guides welcomes girls at different ages and stages, with groups for Pre-Junior Guides (5–7 years), Junior Guides (7–10 years), Guides (10–14 years) and Senior Guides (14–17 years). This gives girls the opportunity to grow, learn and take on new challenges alongside others their own age.
