Find out why kids love Sunshine, Lake Macquarie.

The sun shone brightly on the western side when we visited a gorgeous hidden gem at Sunshine, Lake Macquarie. It was hard to find nestled among the trees past the boat ramp, but worth the search. If you were out in the boat it’s almost impossible to see from the water. However, once you take a few steps along the trail from the car park, the wide grassed area opens up revealing an amazing space for a large gathering or a picnic. The kids, of course, ran directly over to the playground to explore what was on offer.

Sunshine Playground

Slides, swings and climbing galore, this playground isn’t missing much. One of the best things about this playground is the space around it. The view isn’t half bad either! I loved looking at the lake from a different perspective, and this spot was just magic.

There’s plenty of room for a family BBQ with facilities to cater. The kids can explore the shoreline, skim rocks along the water and find lakeside treasures.

Sunshine boat ramp

We love the floating pontoons our council has installed at various boat ramps. Awesome if your kids love to throw in a line and have a fish. It’s equally as good to wander out and spot some of the tiny fish that hang around in the shallows.

Sunshine has a great pontoon, and when you stand at the end it’s like you are standing in the calm water. That’s one thing I noticed about this gorgeous spot, it’s so quiet. You’ll find the boat ramp and the playground at the end of Sunshine Parade, past the South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing Club.

Finding Sunshine

Sunshine is located close to Morisset but on the water. Grouped with suburbs such as Bonnells Bay, Silverwater and Brightwaters, Sunshine is a standout with this gorgeous lakeside playground and picnic area.

We made the most of our time in the area visiting The Elephant Shop at Cooranbong and the historic swing bridge which crosses Dora Creek. It’s certainly worth fitting in a few different activities when exploring a new area of Lake Macquarie.
