When the weather starts warming up, and we prepare to head back to the beach, make sure your kids are ocean-ready. With four Nippers clubs across our four beautiful beaches, Lake Macquarie is the perfect place to grow confidence, knowledge, and skills. Come along to Nippers registration and get your kids involved.
Why nippers?
Nippers is a fun way for kids aged 5 to under 14 to enjoy the beach in a safe environment. Surf Life Saving has served our Australian community for over 100 years, with many parents being members themselves as kids.
Make new friends and have fun while participating in lessons that provide our kids with a pathway to lifesaving and sport. Competition also plays an important role. It helps to strengthen and develop the skills of a lifesaver.
Who can join Nippers?
A child can join nippers as soon as they turn 5. They’ll be placed into an age group based on THEIR AGE AT the 30th of September. It helps if your child can swim. A preliminary skills assessment will be conducted to assess their ability.
Once you’ve signed up to Nippers you’ll attend every Sunday morning. The season runs from mid-October through to the beginning of March. The kids will have fun on the sand with games, activities and surf education. There’s action in the water too, with wading and swimming. Then, as they get older they’ll also use surfboards.

Depending on where you live, we have four Surf Life Saving Clubs that you can register your child with. Registrations open in August. Check your club’s Facebook page for registration dates and in-person registration dates.
