A hidden gem for train lovers on the Central Coast

The Central Coast Steam Model Co-op is a welcoming community group made up of residents and friends who share a passion for miniature trains and railways. It’s more than just a hobby; it’s a place where enthusiasts come together to build, maintain, and operate detailed miniature rail systems that delight visitors of all ages.

Heading down to the Central Coast from Lake Macquarie, take the Ourimbah turn-off, then continue along the Pacific Highway until you reach Narara. The Co-op offers more than just trains. The grounds include picnic tables, open space for blankets, and a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. It’s an ideal spot to pack a lunch and make a day of it. Do keep in mind that the area is close to a creek, so after heavy rain, the ground can sometimes be damp or even flooded.

Ride the rails – first Saturday fun

Families are invited to experience the magic firsthand, with train rides running on the first Saturday of every month between 11 am and 4 pm (weather permitting). It’s a simple, wholesome outing where kids (and adults!) can hop aboard and enjoy a scenic ride. There is a small fee to ride, making it an affordable day out. For updates and more details, you can visit their Facebook page.

Know before you go

Before heading out, there’s one important rule to remember: closed-in shoes are a must if you want to ride the trains. That means shoes need both a covered toe and heel for safety reasons. It’s a small detail that can make a big difference, so plan to avoid disappointment on the day.

For more information and the latest updates, head to the Central Coast Steam Model Co Op Facebook Page. If you’ve missed going this month, don’t worry, catch the miniature trains at Edgeworth
