Rathmines Disc Golf: Have you heard of this free family fun?

Ever heard of Disc Golf? We hadn’t either until we discovered the Disc Golf course at Styles Point Reserve in Rathmines. Take your family around the course and learn the fun outdoor game of Disc Golf. All you need to bring is a frisbee!

This course is set in a beautiful lakeside area, shaded under the cover of tall trees, overlooking the boats moored peacefully on the water. Take some morning tea, a hat, water, sunscreen, and mozzie repellant.

Getting to the Disc Golf course

It’s easy to find the course. Follow Dorrington Road towards Rathmines. Take a left onto Overhill Road. Almost at the bottom of this road, you’ll see a right-hand turn signposted ‘Styles Point Reserve’. You’ll find a small car park as you follow this road, or you can continue to a larger car park where you will also find toilets.

Family friendly game

Anyone of any age can play disc golf. It’s a perfect activity you can do with every member of your family or your friends. The rules are quite simple so everyone can easily understand what they need to do.

As mentioned earlier, all you need to play Disc Golf is a frisbee. Most of us have one hanging around somewhere in the garage. If you have more than one, take them all with you, as it would be ideal for each player to have their own.

Rathmines Disc Golf Course

The Disc Golf course at Rathmines has 9 ‘holes’. These holes are metal baskets on poles with chains hanging down. If you aim at the chains this will stop your frisbee mid-air, then it should land in the basket.

Each hole has a par. Most of the holes in this course are either par 3 or par 4. To play, find the sign that signifies you are at the start of your hole. Check the par and throw your frisbee in the direction of the basket. This game aims to get your frisbee into the basket in the least amount of throws. It’s as simple as that. Take a notepad and pen and keep score. Or don’t. It doesn’t matter who wins!

Rathmines with kids

While you’re in Rathmines, check out the Rathmines Pump Track & Skate Park, and the Rathmines Playground. Take some lunch and have a picnic by the lake. It really is a gorgeous place to visit with family.
