Dirt cheap camping near Lake Macquarie!

Taking time to stop and reconnect with nature, doesn’t always sit high on our to-do list. Pack your tent in the boot and head out with your family, for a couple of nights under the stars. Take off your shoes, and place your bare feet on the earth. Breathe slowly, and listen to the birds singing, the bees humming and the ocean pounding. Camping is a great excuse to experience the beauty of our region.

You don’t have to break the bank to go camping. Time to visit one of the many campsites nearby in our National Parks. Here are our 4 favourites.

Putty Beach Campground – Bouddi National Park

Putty Beach Campground sits right next to Putty Beach. Wake up in the morning and dip your feet in the Tasman Sea. This campsite is located right next to the start of the Bouddi coastal walk. This is a stunning walk. Every turn gives you amazing views as you traverse bridges, climb stairs, and walk along pathways and cliff edges. This is a great family adventure of discovery.

Putty Beach has 20 campsites. There are toilets, BBQ facilities, picnic tables, drinking water and showers onsite. Book your campsite for the night, then when you arrive, you can relax and take it easy. To book a site: Putty Beach

Mungo Brush Campground – Myall Lakes

Accommodating 77 campsites, while this campground is popular if you book early enough you’ll find a perfect site. Located on the shore of Myall Lake. Make sure you pack your fishing rod, kayak or stand-up paddle board. 

Head out for a bush walk. You’ve got several to choose from including Mungo Rainforest Walk, Tamboi Walking Track and Mungo Walking Track. You’ll need to take drinking and cooking water to this campsite. However, you will find toilets, BBQ, picnic tables, rubbish bins and a boat ramp.

Korsmans Landing Campground – Myall Lakes

Wake up among the eucalypts and paperbarks, and keep your eyes peeled for the eastern grey kangaroos grazing nearby. Set up your tent, caravan, campervan or trailer in one of 24 campsites located here. 

If you love spending time on the water, this is the perfect campsite for you. Take your boat, kayak or paddle board and enjoy the views across Two Mile Lake. Don’t forget to take some firewood. This is one of the few campsites where you can enjoy a fire. You’ll find toilets, a BBQ and a boat ramp here. Bring drinking water, cooking water and firewood. Book here: Korsmans Landing

Mogo Campground – Yengo National Park

Head inland to sleep beneath the stars at Mogo Campground. Admire the goannas during the day, and watch out for the wallabies as the sun sets in the evening. If your family enjoy bush walking this is a great campsite to visit. Explore the old Great North Road built by convicts. Just a short walk away you’ll find Circuit Flat Bridge, one of Australia’s oldest bridges.

Located close to the vineyards at Wollombi, you may hear the local cellar door calling your name. This is a remote campground so arrive well prepared. You’ll find toilets, BBQ and picnic tables here. Bring drinking water, cooking water and firewood. This site can hold 10 campers. Please note, that camping is only allowed in tents. Book here: Mogo Campground
