So much more than just a park! With 25 hectares of themed Gardens, there is something for everyone at Hunter Region Botanic Gardens. Paved paths for easy access, plant stall, Kookaburra Café, gift shop, guided tours, group bookings, function centre, wedding sites, cubby house, kid’s activities and more.
The Gardens are constantly growing and changing as new displays are developed for recreational, educational and scientific purposes. Australian and introduced species are on show, with an emphasis on the plants of the Hunter Region. Gardens include grevilleas, palms, rainforests, succulents, bromeliads, orchid houses, fernery, bush foods and more. We are proud to partner with the ‘Save Our Species’ program for the conservation and rescue of endangered plants.
There are several specific walks available, including our newly launched ‘Mindfulness Walk’.
The Gardens are maintained entirely by volunteers and receive no on-going government funding. Our entry fees and special events held throughout the year enable us to continue and we greatly appreciate your patronage. Some of our events include Teddy Bear’s Picnic (April), Mother’s Day Picnic (May), Botanic Gardens Day (May – free entry), Children’s Discovery Day (July), Medieval Fair (Aug), Spring Fair & Orchid Show (Oct), grafting and propagation workshops as well as many school holiday activities.
The Gardens are open 7 days a week. Entry fees are $5 per person or $10 per family per car. We hope you will visit our award-winning Gardens soon and enjoy the tranquillity.
