Who doesn’t love cupcakes? Add some Christmas sparkle and you’ve got the perfect festive treat! Decorating them with the kids is such a fun way to get into the holiday spirit. We’ve tested a few designs, and these four are our absolute favourites. From Christmas Day to end-of-year celebrations, these Christmas cupcakes will spread cheer wherever they go!
Snowman Christmas cupcakes
Don’t let this snowman fool you! He might be melting in the Lake Macquarie sun, but he’s still a Christmas favourite with the kids. Our melted snowman cupcake is full of creative fun. Just add the face first before setting him in the icing, then finish with writing icing for those cheeky final touches.
Reindeer Christmas cupcakes
These reindeer cupcakes are as cute as they are delicious! We used a decorating kit, but pretzels make perfect antlers too! Chocolate cupcakes work best, topped with frosting coloured with brown gel (it holds its brightness beautifully). Add a red nose, some candy eyes, and your reindeer is ready to help Santa. Now… where’s Rudolph hiding?
Santa hats cupcakes
These Santa hat cupcakes are bursting with Christmas cheer! We had so much fun testing out decorating tips. The small one works best for piping the white rim of the hat. Red gel colouring keeps that bold festive red looking perfect. We used plain cupcakes for the base, but you can use any flavour you like. Just add a little imagination!
Christmas tree cupcakes
Simple but oh-so festive, these Christmas tree cupcakes are a delight to make! Frost with green gel colouring, sprinkle on some Christmas decorations, and top with a shiny gold star. Just what every tree needs to sparkle.
Our Supplies
We used the following, but really, anything goes with a little imagination!
- Packet cake mixes – an easy and budget-friendly option, especially if you grab them on a half-price sale.
- Tubs of frosting – we used extra tubs in addition to the frosting included in the packet mixes. The more, the merrier!
- Decorations – stars, Christmas sprinkles, reindeer eyes, antlers and noses, writing icing tubes, and of course, marshmallows.
- Icing and decorating tools – decorating kits are easy to find and inexpensive. We also picked up extra disposable piping bags for convenience.
