Lake Mac Awards Categories
The annual Lake Mac Awards celebrates the unsung heroes that walk among us inspiring positive change, and embodying the spirit of our Lake Macquarie city. With several categories for both individuals and groups, there’s something for everyone.
This year the categories are:
Arts and Creativity
- Lake Mac Artist and Creator – for demonstrating excellence in the field of arts and creative production
- Lake Mac Creative and Performing Arts Leader – for outstanding demonstration of leadership and contribution to the arts
Environmental Enhancement
Lake Mac Environmental Leader – for outstanding demonstration of leadership and contribution of the Lake Macquarie environment
Diversity and Inclusion ***NEW CATEGORY***
Lake Mac Outstanding Contributor with Disability – for outstanding achievement or contribution by a person with disability (individual)
Volunteering and Community Contribution
- Lake Mac Ambassador – for outstanding demonstration of leadership skills and community contribution (individual)
- Lake Mac Young Citizen of the Year (under 21 years) – for outstanding demonstration of leadership skills and community contribution (individual)
- Lake Mac Senior of the Year (65 years of more) – for outstanding demonstration of leadership skills and community contribution (individual)
- Lake Mac Volunteer of the Year (individual) – for outstanding community contribution
- Lake Mac Community Group of the Year (group) – for outstanding community contribution
- Lake Mac Community Event of the Year – for an outstanding community event in Lake Macquarie
Sports
- Lake Mac Young Sports Star (under 19 years) – for outstanding performance in junior sports
- Lake Mac Sports Star – for outstanding contribution to sporting life in Lake Macquarie
- Lake Mac Sports Leader – for outstanding demonstration of leadership and contribution to sporting life in Lake Macquarie

The 2024 Lake Mac Awards reflect the community values, and core strengths across diverse sectors. The awards recognise people who use their skills and passion to enhance social, economic, environmental and cultural functions, and enhance Lake Macquarie’s profile.
Watch them grow
Past winners have gone on to excel, with 2023’s Ambassador, Matt Dun making further breakthroughs in childhood cancer research. Sports Star, Jesse Southwell surged to a consecutive NRLW Premiership. Senior of the Year, Astrid Hocking raising the profile of child protection through Umbrella Hearts.
“Since being named Lake Mac Senior of the Year, I’ve been even more focused to raise awareness around the importance of child protection; I feel more responsibility that comes with that award as well,” – Astrid Hocking, Senior of the Year 2023.
